Hanks, re purchase of [Marcellus?], an African American slave. Receipt, 17 Apr. 1830, issued to John Hanks for payment of poor tax; letter, 28 Apr. 1830, from John Mayrant, Summerville, S.C. for payment of a debt owed to John Jinnings and insisting that Hanks pay the debt on John Mayrant's behalf as soon as possible; subpoena, 1 Feb. 1834, from Sumter, S.C., Court of Common Pleas, to John Hanks, Sumter, S.C., re court hearing between E.G. Graham and David Durant.
