Slave bills of sale, 1841-1843.

This collection consists of two bills of sale for slaves sold by William H. May of Spencer County, Kentucky. The first, dating from 1841, sold William May's interest in two slaves belonging to the estate of David C. Toncray to Charles B. May, also of Spencer County. One of the slaves mentioned in the document was a man named Henson. The other was described as a "negro Girl" named Emiline. Her sale included her "future increase." Interest in both were sold for $366.66. The second bill, written in 1843, sold five slaves to Charles B. May for the sum of $1800. The slaves were named as Henson, Elijah, Martin, Hannah, and Sarah.
