Born Marilyn Hughes in Atchison, Kan. on October 24, 1936, she was a graduate of East High School, Denver, Colo. and the University of Colorado at Boulder. In 1961, married lawyer Dudley R. Griggs (1932-1991); later married to Dr. Conrad M. Riley (1913-2005). Griggs Riley taught English in the Denver Public Schools, primarily at Manual High School for more than 30 years.
