The records are incomplete, scattered, and in poor condition. Most date to the time that the Carolina Mills Company ran the mill (1872-1926). Materials relating to the owners' business and financial activities include account sales sheets, annual reports, correspondence, check registers, order books and bank statements (1869-1956). Records of purchases and sales include incoming and outgoing invoices and receipts (1869-1926). Of particular interest are workers' time sheets (1914-1916) which list workers' names, hours and, in some instances, pay.

The Carolina Mills, located in the village of Carolina in southern Rhode Island, operated from the early 1840s to the mid-1930s as an active woolen manufacturing complex. Rowland Gibson Hazard of Peace Dale, Rhode Island, a key figure in the state's textile manufacturing industry, began development of both the mill and the village in 1842.
