Sculptor. Margot McMahon was born in the later 1950s to painter and civil rights advocate Franklin McMahon and writer Irene McMahon. She was the seventh youngest of nine children, many of whom would become artists. McMahon grew up in Lake Forest, Illinois, where she attended St. Mary's Grade School. She received her Bachelor of Arts from Hamlin University in St. Paul, Minnesota, in 1979 with a double major in pre-medicine and sculpture.
