James H. Blount letter, 23 May 1882.

The collection consists of an autographed letter from James H. Blount signed on U.S. House of Representatives letterhead, Washington, D.C., 23 May 1882, to Hon. H. M. Burch, Dublin, Ga., whom he addresses "Dear Friend." In the letter he thanks him for a letter "which gave me great pleasure. Commendation from and confidence of the good people of Laurens always goes to my heart. Your continued confidence and friendship I am proud...to retain. In harmony with your suggestions I shall seek to be returned to Congress...I shall certainly not enter the Gubernatorial race. I see you and [Guyton?] are in a contest for the Senatorship. It would be offensive to your people for me a non-resident to interfere in it. You have so aided me in the past that I can but sympathize with you and wish you success. I know that you are a man of sense and integrity and would make a good Senator." Signed "with kindest regards for yourself and family."
