Dorian Le Gallienne was born in Melbourne on the 19th April 1915. He taught composition at the Melbourne Conservatorium between 1954 and 1960 and was also a music critic for the Argus and Age newspapers from 1950 until his death in 1963. Ballet dancer and ballet administrator. Martyn danced with the Vic-Wells Ballet (later Sadler's Wells Ballet) and the Borovansky Ballet. A dancer, teacher, choreographer and dance director, McKechnie is one of the pioneers of contemporary dance in Australia. She founded the Australian Contemporary Dance Theatre (1963) and, in 1975, the first degree course in dance studies in an Australian tertiary institution at Rusden College, now Deakin University.
