George Paul Harrison, a representative from Alabama; born at "Monteith Plantation," near Savannah, Ga. on March 19, 1841. He attended Effingham Academy and the Georgia Military Institute at Marietta. During the Civil War he entered the Confederate Army as second lieutenant of the First Georgia Regulars and was successively promoted to first lieutenant, major, colonel, and brigadier general.
