Draft typescript copy with emendations in pencil of work Maynard Gertler commissioned Walter Harding to compile for publication by Harvest House entitled The First Families of Concord. Due to personal differences between the two men, the work was not published by Harvest House. It was later published by Gibbs M. Smith, Salt Lake City; in 1982 under title In the Woods and Fields of Concord: Selections from the Journals of Henry David Thoreau.
