A. Tennyson Beals papers 1882-1946.

Correspondence, lists, manuscripts, translations, photographs, plant specimens and one field collection notebook related to Beals activities as Secretary-Treasurer of the Sullivant Moss Society and as an amateur bryologist. The major portion of the collection consists of papers of E.B. (Edward Blanchard) Chamberlain. These papers contain abstracts of articles published in "The Bryologist" produced for Botanical Abstracts, page and cover proofs, manuscripts, correspondence and a typescript of plants collected on the first and second polar expeditions of Elisha Kent Kane.

A.T. (Alfred Tennyson) Beals (1870-1955) was an amateur bryologist and a professional photographer. He donated his herbarium of 2000 speciments to the New York Botanical Garden. He was born in Greenfield, Mass. and moved to New York City. His first wife was Jessie Tarbox Beals, the first female photojournalist.
