The collection includes correspondence, photographs, blueprints and architectural drawings created as a result of Historic American Buildings Surveys in 1934, 1940, 1960 and 1963 in three South Carolina upstate counties. The correspondence was generated mainly by Mary Stevenson in 1963 and 1968 and pertains to the historic buildings in this collection. In 1960 Jack Boucher from HABS photographed historic buildings in the South Carolina counties of Anderson, Oconee and Pickens. The photographs included: Orange Grove in Anderson; Ashtabula Farm, St. Paul's Episcopal Church and Woodburn in Pendleton, Anderson County; and Fort Hill, the Hanover House, and the Old Stone Church (Hopewell Meeting House) in the Clemson area of Pickens County. The photographs include interiors as well as exteriors of the buildings. A set of architectural drawings of "Orange Grove" in Anderson by architect Walter F. Petty of Columbia were given to Clemson in 1963; in 1974 seven sheets of blueprints of Farmer's Hall in Pendleton, S.C. (surveyed by HABS in 1934) and eleven sheets of blueprints of Varennes Tavern in Anderson County (surveyed by HABS in 1940) were added to the collection.
