Elsa Pawolleck (also known as Elizabeth Pavolleck) was born in 1883 in Elberfeld, Germany. She married a lawyer from Madrid whom she met at Oxford University. After his death in 1919, she moved with her three children to the United States, where she became a translator for the Christian Science Publishing House. She died in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1962.
