The records include a complete set of minutes (1797-1935); also treasurer's accounts (1797-1935); and school documents including the articles of association (1796), constitution (1859), school library materials, photographs, regulations and miscellaneous documents, such as regarding property, bequests, teachers, oversight and history of the school. Important names in the collection include Anne Parrish, Sarah Richie, Sarah Bacon, and Margaret Warder (all first members of the Society); also Catharine Morris (an early member and financial contributor and Mary Wheeler and Mary M. Leeds who both served as treasurer.

The Aimwell School was founded in 1796 by Anne Parrish in Philadelphia for the purpose of providing free education for poor girls. It was instituted by the Society for the Free Instruction of Female Children. The Aimwell School name was taken in 1859 at the time of incorporation.
