Mary Elizabeth Hewitt letters to R. W. Griswold [manuscript], 1841 Dec 30 and 18[?] Aug 25.

On Dec 30, 1841, Hewitt writes to apologize for her late response in sending Griswold the desired copies during the time period he requested. She thanks him for the honor of assigning her a place among the "Poets of America," and discusses her difficulty in selecting from her poems. She concludes by responding to Griswold's questions about her maiden name and birthplace. In a second letter, Aug 25, Hewitt hopes Griswold received the packet she sent him noting how difficult it is to live more than three and a half miles from the nearest mail bag and not own a horse or any other animal.
