The collection deals chiefly with Schneider's political campaigns and House service but includes materials predating her congressional career which relate to her later legislative work. Of particular interest are materials dealing with her most significant political races against Democratic incumbents Edward Beard for the House (1978 and 1980) and Claiborne Pell for the Senate (1990) and her role in the successful fight against the construction of a nuclear power plant in Charlestown, R.I. Materials from Schneider's six congressional campaigns include briefing books, position papers, finance reports, polling data, press releases, brochures, audiotapes and videotapes (1978-1990). Materials relating to her five terms in office include: subject files consisting of briefing books, correspondence, press clips, calendars, schedules and articles concerned with issues in which she had an interest and the congressional committees on which she served; correspondence (1980-1990); bills sponsored and cosponsored correspondence, Clinch River materials, schedules, and miscellaneous gifts. Materials from Schneider's six congressional campaigns include briefing books, position papers, finance reports, polling data, press releases, brochures, audiotapes and videotapes (1978-1990). Materials relating to her five terms in office include: subject files consisting of briefing books, correspondence, press clips, calendars, schedules and articles concerned with issues in which she had an interest and the congressional committees on which she served; correspondence (1980-1990); bills sponsored and cosponsored (1982-1990); materials relating to her support of women's issues (1982-1990); press releases issued from her office (1980-1990); computer files produced and maintained by her staff (1983-1986); correspondence, press clips and newsletters relating to the Clinch River Breeder Reactor Project in Tennessee (1975-1983); news clips, original and photocopied, which either mention or quote Schneider (1977-1990); memorabilia consisting of plaques, awards and honorary degrees given to Schneider. Also included are memoranda, legal briefs, petitions, reports, and transcripts of testimony relating to the proposed Charlestown, R.I. nuclear power plant (1973-1979). The collection is incomplete. Lacking are bills cosponsored from the 100th and 101st Congresses, some Clinch River material and some schedules.
