Burt/Bock family papers, 1831-1996.

The bulk of the collection contains correspondence, writings, photo albums, scrapbooks of news clippings, memorabilia and glass plate negatives relating primarily to Henry F. Burt's professional activities with the Chicago Commons Settlement House and the Pillsbury House in Minneapolis (1900-1922), the Commission on Training Camp Activities of the War Department (1917-1918), Works Progress Administration at New Orleans (1934-1937), the Family Welfare Society of Providence, R.I and other Rhode Island social service agencies (1922-1949). Included also are a biography of Burt written by his daughter and a Burt Family genealogy. Bock Family records (1831-1911) contains diaries, correspondence and memorabilia of the Bock, MacAdam and Magenes families, descendants of Samuel Neilson. Records of the Beecher Bible Colony, a group of Connecticut citizens led by Burt ancestor Charles B. Lines who emigrated to the Kansas Territory to support the free soil/anti-slavery movement there, includes printed and typescript histories, correspondence about the colony and photographs.
