Sarah Cousins Tiffney graduated from Radcliffe College (A.B. 1932, A.M. 1933, Ph.D. 1936) She lived in Springfield, Massachusetts, with her husband Wesley Tiffney from 1936-1946. During the war she taught at American International College in Springfield. They moved to Sharon, Massachusetts, when Wesley was appointed professor of biology at Boston University.
