This collection consists of papers of Rep. David C. Hollister, and is divided into 5 series. The first series, death and dying legislation (1976-84), consists of materials from four different House bills on the issues of euthanasia, living wills, death with dignity, and the ethics involved in the new life extending technologies. The second series, medical cost containment (1975-84), consists of legislative bills, analyses, correspondence, reports, and support materials. The third series, Michigan fiscal crisis (1980-83), consists of reports, correspondence, and legislation dealing with the recession Michigan was experiencing at the time. The fourth series, sunset laws (1976-1981), consists of correspondence, legislative bills, bill analysis, and reports dealing with laws that automatically terminate the existence of a government agency at the end of a specified time, unless renewed by the Legislature.

David C. Hollister was born in Kalamazoo, Mich. on Apr. 3, 1942. He received his B.A. (1965) and M.A. (1968) in history and political science from Michigan State University. Hollister, a Democrat, served as Ingham County Commissioner from 1968-1974. He was elected state representative for the 57th District in 1974.
