Subscription list, 31 Aug. 1805 (Laurens District, S.C.), to pay for services of a minister; letter, 9 Dec. 1811 (Mount Pleasant, Baldwin County, Ga.), from George W. Glenn to Revd. [John] Renwick (in Newberry, S.C.), informing him of his recent marriage, election of the S.C. General Assembly, religious affairs, a trip to Milledgeville, Ga., and commenting on the Georgia Legislature, "the wisdom of the State has done nothing of great importance yet, unless it is that of divorcing man and wife!!!" Letter, 25 Apr. 1840, Washington, D.C., Nancy H. Rogers to Rosannah P. Rogers, re failure of a do-nothing Congress to accomplish goals and a fight in U.S. House, "So far from its being an honour to be attached to this body... it [is] a dishonor"; an undated speech re advantages and disadvantages of slavery, praising slaves' sense of community and good living conditions. Letter, 26 Oct. 1845, Columbia, S.C., from J.J. Lyons, re his position as typesetter at the South-Carolina Temperance Advocate, arsonists' attempt to burn Columbia, S.C., rowdy behanior by students at South Carolina College that merited the calling of a military company to duty, and expulsions from the Arsenal Hill Academy resulting in remaining enrollment of only 45 students. Advertisement, 27 Oct. 1845, A[dam] G[eiselhardt] Summer, calling for bids from printers during legislative debate in the S.C. General Assembly over proposed print expenses, with with protests of the printers over proposed prices. Letter, 22 Oct. 1850, Oak Level [near Augusta, Ga.] from Ebenenzer Bothwell, re local, state politics, and support for secession, "A large majority of our County I think is for union & accepting the Compromise of the Genl. Government and being satisfied therewith.... let a dissolution or Secession take place & I say farewell to Republican Government"; Meeting minutes, 25 June 1853 (Black Rock, Union County, S.C.), re an address given by W.H. Gist on benefits of plank road to connect the community with the markets of the state; letter, 24 Oct. 1859, S.C. College (Columbia, S.C.) from Prof. William James Rivers (1822-1909), re his memories of college life as student at SCC prior to his graduation in 1841; letter, 25 May 1860, to [Wade] Hampton, discussing attitudes and beliefs about the South held by residents of the North.
