Kleinman Family Papers, 1937-1975 1946-1971.

Items received by Brooklyn College are housed in one box of 0.5 cubic feet. Material is thematically and chronologically organized into sixteen folders, roughly covering dates from 1937 through 1975. The documents are primarily in German and English; however, there are a few letters in Polish and Yiddish. For translations of German document titles, see the finding aid appendix. The collection documents the experiences of a Jewish businessman in Nazi Germany. Included are A.I. Kleinman's correspondence with various governmental agencies in Berlin prior to the family's emigration to the United States in 1941. After the war, A. I. Kleinman attempted to locate missing family members and to claim family property seized in Poland during the war. This is shown in his correspondence with refugee assistance agencies, U.S. governmental agencies, and the Jewish National Fund.
