This collection contains a minute book of the Centre Alliance, No. 525, N.C. Farmers State Alliance, Chatham Co., of which Hugh Johnson served as secretary for an undetermined amount of time. Other records include loose minutes, a document relative to the division of the lands of Israel Hargrove; a form letter of Sept. 26, 1899, from T.C. Parker, State Business Agent of the N.C. Farmers State Alliance (attached to the letter is an advertisement for Alliance and Hillsboro sewing machines); a broadside issued by W.S. Barnes, Business Manager of the "Egg Exchange" of the Alliance; an Alliance broadside containing a letter of May 17, 1984, by Marion Butler, President of the N.C. Farmers State Alliance; and a broadside issued by the Committee on Manufactures of the Alliance (it had acquired a tannery, saw mill, and shoe factory), among other records.
