Born in London, England, Roy Daniells emigrated to Victoria, B.C. with his family in 1910. He received a B.A. from University of British Columbia (1930) before continuing his graduate education in English at the University of Toronto (M.A., 1931 and Ph.D., 1936). After serving as head of the Department of English at the University of Manitoba, Daniells came to UBC in 1946. He became head of the department following the retirement of G.G.
