These materials relate to the work of the American Committee for Devastated France, Inc., and le Musee de Blerancourt. A report of an A.C.D.F. survey of schools in 44 devastated villages in France shows that the Trinity College Alumnae Association gave support to the town of Le Mesnil.

The American Committee for Devastated France (ACDF) had its origins in the Civilian Division of the American Fund for French Wounded (est. 1916) and was organized in 1918 to provide emergency relief and restoration aid to the citizens of post-World War I France. Its original stated purpose was to establish a community center which would determine the needs of French citizens, and act as a liaison between them and American relief workers. Mamie E. Jenkins (1875-1957) taught in the English Department at East Carolina Teachers College for thirty-six years. She was one of the first three faculty members to be selected for service at East Carolina Teachers Training School. Jenkins served from 1909, when the school opened, until 1946. One of the first four women to receive a baccalaureate degree from Trinity College (Duke University), Jenkins subsequently was awarded a master's degree by Columbia University and did graduate work at th...
