Samuel L. Kauffman collection.

This collection consists of the papers of Samuel L. Kauffman, for the years 1902-1938. The collection includes diaries (1902-1925), ledgers (1912, 1923-1938), and ephemera (1922-1931). The diaries give a good record of the weather conditions. They also show the day to day activities of a farmer in the early part of the 20th century. They do not reveal his inner thoughts. The ledgers document expenses incurred by an ordinary Mich. citizen. Information about day to day expenses can also be found in the diaries. The ephemera consists of newspaper clippings and note paper. The collection is arranged alphabetically by type of record, then chronologically within that arrangement.
