This Target documentary program on WBT radio, with host Clyde McLean, features interviews with school president Vittorio Giannini ; the Deans of Drama, Dance, Music, and Academics ; a student ; a member of the Advisory Board ; and the head of Public Relations of the North Carolina School of the Arts. Mrs. Paul Muilenberg describes the founding of NCSA. Dr. Vittorio Giannini discusses why he accepted the presidency ; the need for the school ; and he describes the faculty. William Trotman, Associate Dean of the School of Drama, discusses a drama student's life at NCSA ; activities in the School of Drama ; facilities ; and the philosophy of the School of Drama. Drama student Donna Carter talks about her reaction to the school. Robert Lindgren, Dean of the School of Dance, discusses when a dancer's talent develops ; and his own philosophy of dance instruction. Dr. Louis Mennini, Dean of the School of Music, describes how students come to the school ; and the kind of music they are exposed to. Julia Mueller, Academic Dean describes the caliber of students at NCSA ; discusses the academic program at NCSA ; relates the story of George, a mongrel dog adopted by the students ; and auditions and admission requirements. Also included in the recording are the Allegro con brio from Giannini's Symphony no. 3 ; a portion of Bach's Fugue in G minor performed by the NCSA Orchestra, Saul Caston, conductor ; recordings of Sonja Tyven's dance class ; and a music student's practice session.
