Michigan Aerospace History Committee Executive Committee collection.

This collection comprises the records and reference files of the Michigan Aviation Historical Committee, but in reality, consists of two distinct series of documents. The first is the personal files of William E. Scripps which were compiled as a result of his active membership in the Early Birds, an organization of pioneer flyers. The second is the Michigan Aviation Historical Committee's files directly associated with the Chronology of Michigan Aviation Project. These files include both published and unpublished reference sources which were acquired during the project.

In July of 1952, the Michigan Dept. of Aeronautics established the Michigan Aviation Historical Committee to collect material for a complete history of Michigan aviation. Peter Altman headed this 20 member committee. Robert Ball was hired to write and edit the committee's fianl publication, which was entitled A chronology of Michigan Aviation, 1834-1953, which was reprinted in 1966 as the Michigan aerospace directory and chronology of Michigan aviation.
