This collection consists of various legislative materials, dating from 1966-1972 and administrative subject files, dating from 1959-1979. Included in the collection are bills introduced by Del Rio, analyses of House staff and comments of public interest groups, reports, correspondence, articles and clippings documenting constituent concerns and opinions of Del Rio. The materials cover a variety of topics including civil rights, social and economic conditions of Afro-Americans in Detroit, Detroit real estate, administration of Mayor Jerome P. Cavanagh, the judicial behavior of Judge George Crockett, Jr., abortion, Black nationalism, Black Panther Party, and migrant labor.

James Del Rio was born on Jan. 30, 1924, in Detroit, Mich. He attended the University of Michigan and the Detroit College of Law. He was awarded an honorary Doctor of Laws degree by Union Baptist Seminary, Birmingham, Ala. He is a former mortgage broker, real estate broker and insurance executive, a trustee of the New Bethel Church. He was named Michigan Industrial Ambassador by Gov.
