Clifford H. Smart was born Jan. 14, 1905 in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. He was a graduate of Wayne State University, receiving a B.S. in 1936 and a M.S. in 1939. Before his election to the State House, he was Superintendent of Schools at Walled Lake for 20 years. He was also a member and served as state president for the Michigan Education Association and the Association of School Administrators.
