This one item collection is a notebook, entitled "Notes on the Canvass of 1856," kept by Patrick U. Major of Frankfort, Kentucky. The notebook contains newspaper clippings on the following topics: the national Democratic platform, Democratic party meetings in Franklin County in 1855 and 1856, the American Party (a.k.a. the Know-Nothing Party) platform, Henry Clay on Catholicism, and slavery. Also included are handwritten notes about naturalization and about the Pope's influence in temporal affairs.
