Diary, 24 Oct. 1892-23 June 1893, re Middleton's visits to regional churches, invitations to speak, settlement of disputes among church members, and increasing church attendance, including diary entry, 2 Dec. 1892, re preaching at a Florence, S.C., church; entry, 2 Feb. 1893, re recent deaths of Rutherford Birchard Hayes, James Gillespie Blaine, Lucius Quintus Cincinnatus Lamar, and Benjamin Franklin Butler. Entry, 8 Mar. 1893, re recent lynchings in S.C., and 26 Apr. 1893, re a lynching in Denmark, S.C.; entry, 19-20 Apr. 1893, re attendance at a hearing in Bennettsville, S.C. for a minister charged and found guilty of immoral conduct; entry, 12 May 1893, re 50th anniversary of Middleton's joining the Methodist Episcopal Church of Charleston, S.C.; entry, 23 and 24 May 1893, re progress and celebrations at Claflin College, Orangeburg, S.C.; and entry, 24 June 1893, re the earthquake.
