This collection consists of various materials of Victor Lemmer, covering the years 1845-1970. The collection consists of records of iron ore production in Michigan (1845-1970) for several mines in Michigan, as well as various other records of the mining companies; personal papers of prominent people in the Gogebic mining region and other local type of information, including iformation on dugout canoes (1845-1969); histories and articles of the Gogebic mining region (1851-1971); a piece of spruce wood verified to be 10,000 years old; photographs on iron mining in the Upper Peninsula, railroad bridges, transportation, commercial fishing and lumbering (1885-1965); maps relating to mining in the western Upper Peninsula or the northeastern portion of Wisconsin (1845-1970); justice of the peace docket (1891-1898) from ironwood, Mich.; the Burton House hotel register, the hotel being located in Hurley, Wis. (1889-1890); and a collection of newspapers (1953-1970) offering a historical perspective of the area.
