James Del Rio collection.

This collection consists of the legislative resource files, dating from 1957-1970, accumulated by Rep. James Del Rio during the regular and special sessions of the Michigan House of Representatives. These files relect his interest in some of the proposed legislation brought before the House. The files contain a variety of materials, including copies of proposed legislation, special studies, letters in, carbons of letters out, memoranda, telegrams, and notes covering topics such as discrimination in higher education, abandoned autos, open housing, labor unions, and law enforcement.

James Del Rio was born on Jan. 30, 1924, in Detroit, Mich. He attended the University of Michigan and the Detroit College of Law. He was awarded an honorary Doctor of Laws degree by Union Baptist Seminary, Birmingham, Ala. He is a former mortgage broker, real estate broker and insurance executive, a trustee of the New Bethel Church. He was named Michigan Industrial Ambassador by Gov.
