Glover family papers, 1759-1865.

Chiefly consisting of plantation accounts, records of slaves, papers of various members of Glover family and others, including Edward Glover, Eliza Glover, Jane L. Glover, Col. John H. Glover, Joseph Glover, Margaret Glover, Nathaniel Heyward, and A.H. Jenkins. Manuscript items consist of reproductions of family Bible records, 1759-1848, re birth and death records. Six plantation books, 1824-1865, 1837-1859, 1844-1865, 1849-1864, and 1852-1862, re African-American slaves living at Cooks Hill, Eutaw, Mt. Pleasant, Palmetto Island, Richfield, Bull Swamp, and Wrightfield Plantations; volumes identify slaves by name, owner, occupation, monetary value, and dates of births, sales, and deaths. In 1844, John H. Glover's tax return for Richfield plantation reported 106 slaves, 330 acres of land devoted to rice culture, 330 acres devoted to cotton and provender culture, and 1600 acres of pineland.
