Correspondence constitutes the bulk of the papers. While there is some correspondence to and from Henry Davenport (1811-1898), it is primarily between Bennett F. Davenport and his relatives, members of related families, town clerks and historical societies. The majority of this relates to Thomas Davenport (ca. 1604-1685) and Richard Davenport (ca. 1606-1665) and their descendants. This is the continuation of his published work. Some of the correspondence with individuals from allied families is concerned with those related families including the Hagar, Coolidge and Sturtevant families. The correspondence between William Hagar and Bennett F. Davenport, in particular, includes a genealogy of nine typed pages with nine generations of descendants of John Hagar (1726-ca. 1796). The "Davenport Family Record" manuscript by Darius Davenport (1789-1853) presents his ancestors and descendants. A manuscript, presumably by Bennett, provides the descendants of Francis Davenport (d. 1707) and in the reverse direction of the same volume is the descendants of Captain Richard Davenport (ca. 1606-1665) of Salem and Boston. The indices, again all presumably by Bennett, include an "Index to Descendants of Thomas Davenport of Dorchester," Index to Davenports of Unknown Descent in America, " and an "Index for the Descendants of Reverend John Davenport and Captain Richard Davenport." The graphic material includes postcards and photographs of various Davenports or of the homes in which they lived. The original documents, 23 between 1636-1697, 11 between 1701-1797, and 8 between 1801-1844, which include attachments, bonds, court records, decedents' estates, deeds, depositions, funeral sermons, land grants, marriage records, pensions, photographs (late 1800s+), poems, and probate records.
