Richard Butler was a Master of Arts candidate in the Department of English at the University of Victoria in the mid-1970s. When his Master's thesis proposal, a bibliography of works by Roderick Haig-Brown, was not accepted, Butler continued to pursue the publication of the bibliography outside of his M.A. program.
