The collection contains three letters and one etching. In a letter to William Rossetti, Manet mentions that Stéphane Mallarmé has informed him that Rossetti is writing an article on him and sends along several photographs of his paintings, and mentions that one of them, "Lola de Valence," has inspired a brief poem by Manet's friend Charles Baudelaire. In two brief notes, Manet sets up meetings with "mon cher Champfleury." Also includes a small portrait of Baudelaire, "painted and engraved by Manet, 1865," printed by A. Salmon.

Champfleury (pseudonym for Jules François Félix Husson-Fleury) was a self-educated critic and art historian, as well as a prolific author of fiction.
