The 20th Commemoration of the Kent State shootings, held in 1990, remains one of the largest-attended of all the annual gatherings. Preparations had begun a few years in advance, culminating in the creation of the May 4 20th Anniversary Commission, at the behest of President Michael Schwartz, in 1989. Professor Murray Fishel was an assistant professor in the Department of Political Science in May 1970. After the University was closed on May 4, Dr. Fishel, as did all Kent State faculty, sent out a mimeographed note to his students explaining how they might complete their course requirements. In addition, he asked his students for their thoughts on the recent events at the University. The responses which he received during May and June, 1970, comprise this collection. From the descr...
