Hobart G. Cawood papers, 1957-2006, (bulk 1971-1989)

The collection contains appointment books, articles, brochures, charts, clippings, correspondence, job descriptions, memoranda, pamphlets, press releases, reports, speeches and testimonies. Also included in the collection are photographs and oversize materials. This collection emphasizes Cawood's tenure as the Superintendent of Independence National Historical Park, especially during the bicentennial celebration era of the United States. It also contains materials relating to his other National Park Service assignments, particularly as chief historian at the Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park. In addition, the papers reflect Cawood's interest in American history. Materials relating to We the People 200 and the Friends of Independence National Historical Park can be found here as well. Also included are a small group of photographs which show Cawood involved in various activities as the Superintendent of Independent National Historical Park, as well as buildings of the park.
