Silverbell artifacts research, 1924-1994.

Correspondence, research notes, photographs and published articles dealing with the discovery, attempted authentication, and history of the iron artifacts discovered on Silverbell Road in Tucson, Ariz. in 1924. The artifacts were variously attributed to Phoenician sailors, Spanish explorers, Mormons, Quetzacoatl, and a Roman-Jewish settlement circa 775 A.D. There is extensive correspondence between Bent and others including Gaston Burridge, Byron Cummings, Cyclone Covey, and Bernice and Jack McGee. Photographs include pictures of excavation work and later displays.

In September 1924 the first iron artifact was discovered by Charles E. Manier near an old lime kiln site on Silverbell Road. The property was owned by Thomas W. Bent, Sr. In the next two years, twenty-four artifacts were removed from the site. The artifacts were decorated with Christian crosses, Muslim crescents, Hebraic candlesticks, Freemasonry symbols, and other signs.
