Byron Densmore Paddock collection.

This collection was donated by Sterling Lee, Paddock's great, great grandson in 1991. It consists of two folders arranged in the following series: 1. Papers, 1862-1865, 1969. Consists of the diary written by Paddock as a member of the First Regiment, Michigan Light Artillery. Describes camp life and military engagements from Jan. 1862 to April 1865. Also includes the 1969 master's thesis written by Lee Winiarski and additional notations and corrections submitted by Sterling Lee.

On Jan. 9, 1862, Byron Densmore Paddock of Coldwater, Mich. enlisted in Battery F, First Michigan Light Artillery. Initially, Paddock was a quartermaster sergeant, but was discharged in July 1862 to accept a promotion of first lieutenant. He was later promoted to captain (Sept. 1863) and discharged when the war ended in April 1865. Paddock died in 1920, and is buried at the Mississippi River National Cemetery near Memphis, Tenn.
