Log book kept by Jonathan A. Chapel, crew-member of the whaler "Meteor" out of Mystic, CT. In addition to the weather entries, the log contains detailed observations of ship-board life, various repairs to the ship, comments of islands visited (some illustrated), meetings with other vessels, and a visit to missionaries on the Hawaiian Is. The log is filled with an almost daily account of whales captured, recorded in numerous whale stamps.
