Russel B. Nye collection.

This collection consists of speeches and newsletters arranged in two series. The first series covers his speeches from 1951-1962. It contains typed and handwritten speeches given by Nye and speeches written by Nye for Governor G. Mennon Williams and includes a few letters to Nye from Governor Williams thanking Nye for speeches he had written. Topics include special events and commemorations at Michigan State University and campaign speeches. The second series contains newsletters from 1956-1957, including newsletters of the Democratic Business and Professional Committee and the Democratic State Central Committee.

Russel B. Nye was born in Viola, Wisconsin, February 17, 1913. He received as A.B. from Oberlin College in 1934, an M.A. in 1935 and a Ph. D. in 1940 from the university of Wisconsin, an Litt. D. from Northern Michigan University in 1968 and an LL. D. from Ferris State College in 1969. Nye was a professor of English at Michigan State University from September 1, 1940 to July 1, 1979.
