Letters from the Virginia Student Aid Foundation to University of Virginia Alumni [manuscript], [1961?]

Atcheson Hench's copy of a form letter to Virginia Alumni requesting participation in the fundraising endeavors of the Virginia Student Aid Foundation, designed to provide financial assistance to students who "have the promise of outstanding athletic ability" as well as above-average academic accomplishments. The letter was sent by Howard A. Holland, president of the Association, to Hench, who was a known critic of University of Virginia athletics and had been a driving force behind the 1951 Gooch Committee that investigated athletics. Holland has noted that 80 % of the students who received assistance graduated and asks Hench to comment. Attached is another form letter, undated, from head football coach Ben S. Martin concerning continued support of the VSAF.
