Peter Peterson, born in Denmark, gives a brief autobiography and synopsis of his sailing voyages, initially to Havana, New York, and Boston. On October 3rd he left Boston on the ship California, and in 148 days reached Santa Barbara; on February 16th, 1835 he left from San Diego and reached Boston on July 3rd, 1835. After voyages to other parts of the world, he returned to California in 1842, as Captain on the ship Admittance. William H. Thomes was a sailor-boy on the Admittance, and later wrote a book about the voyage, titled On land and sea. Peterson's ship was captured during the Mexican War in 1847. Returning financially broke to Boston, he later continued his world-wide travels, on the clipper ship Phantom, and others, serving as Captain of several. He was accompanied by his wife on five voyages around the world.
