Papers pertaining to the University dormitories [manuscript], 1937-1938.

Collection contains miscellaneous papers on dormitory self-governance, rules and regulations, and other related material. Includes appointment of counsellors for halls and tentative plans for registration week, 1937, to include "tea or punch on lawn (with umbrellas), casual dancing by those who feel like it." Includes a "Self Government Plan for the Halls" noting that quiet is maintained at all times and that "women of questionable character are forbidden at all times." Underneath the word "Nuts" has been burned with a cigarette. A letter from Dean Ivey F. Lewis expresses appreciation for the firm stand in regard to women visitors. An additional note on a second copy states that self government regulations are not governed by the Honor Code. On a separate paper students sign a "Gentlemans agreement" to adhere to the regulations. Also includes a list of people having permits from the Dean's Office to visit the dormitories for delivering newspapers, collecting laundry, shining shoes, and delivering wood. Names, race, purpose and hours allowed in halls are given.
