The Florida State College for Women (FSCW) Artist Series began in 1923. Dean Ella Opperman was the first person in charge of organizing the series. The series was intended to bring renowned artists to FSCW. After FSCW became Florida State University (FSU), the FSU School of Music managed the series. Eva Mae Atwood, Professor Emerita of Modern Languages, was born in Jackson, LA on January 11, 1907. She received her A.B. in 1929 from the Tennessee College for Women and her M.A. from George Peabody College in 1935. She also studied at Columbia University and the University of Paris. She joined the staff of Florida State College for Women in 1943 as Assistant Registrar and, in 1947, became an Instructor in Modern Languages. She retired in 1977 after receiving the first ...
