Sir Stephen Harold Spender (February 28, 1909 - July 16, 1995) was an English poet and novelist who worked with the themes of social injustice and class struggle. Spender was born in London and educated at University College, Oxford. He was mentored by W. H. Auden with whom he maintained a life-long friendship.
