William W. Old was born in 1856 at Alleghany City, Pennsylvania. He came out to Denver in 1876 and later moved to Leadville, Colorado, where he opened the first dry goods store in 1878. He served as Justice of the Peace, Police Judge, and was appointed postmaster in 1890. Old was active in the Republican Party in Leadville.
