William E. Darrington was born on a farm in Persia, Iowa on May 31, 1904. He attended Iowa State College (University) in the agricultural course. Darrington served as a State Representative as a Republican for Harrison County from 1951 to 1970 (nine terms), except for one term in 1965. In 1959 he was appointed Speaker Pro Tempore of the Iowa House of Representatives.
