Hiram Hawkins papers, 1902-1911.

This collection consists of ten letters between Col. Hiram Hawkins of Hawkinsville, Alabama, and the Adjutant General's Office in Frankfort, Kentucky. The letters discuss Hawkins' compiling and writing a history of the 5th Kentucky Infantry, Confederate States Army, which Hawkins commanded during the Civil War. Also included are notes and manuscript on the history of the unit as well as a 261 page ledger listing members of Civil War units, primarily Union, by name, rank, and current address (1902). The ledger lists both black and white units. Names represented are Ed Porter Thompson, W.L. Jett, and J.M. Warmack.
